Understanding Your Cycle: A Phase-by-Phase Guide
By Vital Team
Many of us were taught the basics of menstruation and little else. But your cycle is a dynamic, four-phase rhythm — and understanding it can help you plan, rest, and thrive with your body instead of against it.
The menstrual phase (days 1–5)
Hormones are at their lowest. Energy often dips, and rest is your friend. This is a natural time for reflection and gentle movement.
The follicular phase (days 6–14)
Estrogen rises, and with it, energy and motivation. Many women feel more social, creative, and focused — a great window for starting new projects.
Ovulation (around day 14)
Estrogen peaks and you may feel your most confident and outgoing. Communication and connection often come easily here.
The luteal phase (days 15–28)
Progesterone rises, then hormones fall if pregnancy doesn't occur. Energy gradually winds down, and you may crave more calm and comfort. Honoring that need is not a weakness — it's wisdom.
Working with your rhythm
- Plan demanding work for the follicular and ovulatory phases
- Schedule rest and reflection during menstruation and the late luteal phase
- Track your patterns for a couple of months to learn your own version of this rhythm
Every body is different, and cycles vary. If yours brings pain, irregularity, or symptoms that disrupt your life, that's worth talking through with a professional — support is available.
